COURSE OUTCOMES

On completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • ​Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
  • Identify construction hazards and risk control measures
  • Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
  • Identify incident and emergency response procedures
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be provided a Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card) and a plastic White Card identification card.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

If you’re working on construction sites, national WHS legislation requires that you have a White Card. ​This course will provide you the basic knowledge required to work on construction sites, applicable legislation, hazards that you are likely to encounter, and risk control techniques.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ALL LEARNERS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION PRIOR TO UNDERTAKING THE COURSE.
  • No formal academic requirements needed for this unit of competency
Foundation Skills This section describes the language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills essential to performance in this unit but not explicit in the performance criteria. Numeracy skills to:
  • locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.
  • ask questions to clarify instructions
Oral communication skills to:
  • listen to instructions to identify key safety information
  • tell another person about a construction problem or hazard.
Reading skills to:
  • follow simple pictorial safety instructions
  • follow simple safety instructions that are written in English.
Problem-solving skills to:
  • select risk control measures.
Written skills to:
  • complete a basic form.
**Students who fail the LL&N assessment may still be enrolled to the course if endorsed by the trainer/assessor, and corresponding additional support strategies are in place

ASSESSMENT

Assessment will use an evidence gathering method, including:
  • Observation during on-the-job or role play/simulation (OS)
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview (Q)

GENERAL

What is an RTO?
An RTO is a Registered Training Organisation, a registered training provider to deliver vocational education and training services. As an RTO, Workzone is a certified provider of nationally recognised training and qualifications.


Will I be offered a job after completing a course with ETAS ?
We regularly employ staff throughout Northern Territory and South Australia, and encourage you to apply through our website Workzone Territory or Workzone Traffic Control.

Do I have to attend in person?
Each course offered has a requirement for attendance to meet the competency. Please review each course information.

Can I use CITB Funding?
To receive the CITB training subsidy you will need a valid CITB number.  Courses eligible for CITB funding will allow you to book with your CITB Number to receive the contribution against your course fee.  More details about training subsidies can be found here.
